Career orientation exchange with Alumni of Chemistry faculty for graduating students

11/11/2020 13:29

As part of the final civic activity week of the 2020–2021 academic year, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering collaborated with the Student Affairs Department on November 6, 2020, to organize an orientation exchange for students about to graduate from course 2016, with the help of the Alumni Association of Chemistry. The speaker of the exchange was Mr. Van Thanh Nam, Marketing Manager (In charge of South East Asia and Australia, New Zealand), Chief Representative of the Office - DOW CORNING in Vietnam. Mr. Nam is also an alumnus of the course 1995, majoring in Food Technology. In the current environment, where the Covid epidemic is having a significant impact on the economy, the exchange's main topics included job orientation, job application skills, and interviewing techniques.

Following are some comments made by students from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering regarding the community service and exchange at the end of the course:

“Hello, everyone. I recently attended our class's last civics event as aDUT student (class of 2016). I initially believed it to be merely a routine activity, but I don't know why it happened from morning until afternoon! In actuality, it's more than just a game; for a graduate student like me, it's a valuable learning experience. The arrival of Mr. Van Thanh Nam, a member of class 95H2, who came to share and inspire the new students, marked the beginning of a wet and windy day. We now have a clearer picture of a turbulent 2020 thanks to you, and you've also given us a glimpse into future challenges and opportunities. You help us see and comprehend who we are so that we can consider the jobs that are ideal for each of us! Before attending this activity, I was still confused with the question: Mr. Nam assisted us in coming up with our answers to the question of "What to do after graduating from university." He has provided us with a wealth of knowledge for the job application process, from how to write a CV to how to respond to employers, thanks to his experience as a successful senior. A meeting between the Vietnam-Japan ESUHAI company has also been planned by the student affairs department, providing DUT students with a new chance to fulfill their employment aspirations in Japan. The ESUHAI company is very enthusiastic about teaching students job search or interviewing skills and highlighting the fantastic opportunities that are available to us. As beloved Central Vietnamese children, we are extremely grateful that the program also dedicated time and moments to this sentimentally charged region during the event.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Van Thanh Nam for traveling to this location and sharing many helpful tips with our final students, as well as to the ESUHAI company for bringing numerous new opportunities to DUT engineering students. We appreciate the University of Science and Technology and the department of student affairs for providing our students with such a wonderful and beneficial event!

The right orientation for students who are about to graduate is absolutely essential for both them specifically as well as society as a whole, so I hope this tradition will last for many more years!

Thank you!"

To make a summary report and learn from experience to make the organization of the next meetings more effective and useful, the Faculty Leader of Chemical Engineering conducted a survey for faculty students who participated in an exchange with alumni. According to the survey findings, 93% of students are happy with the alumni exchange programs, and 55% are very interested in exchanging and sharing the skills that graduates will need. According to the survey results, 75% of the students who took part to anticipate that the faculty and the university will continue to hold similar career-focused gatherings and exchanges before students graduate in order to help them develop their soft skills for the job search process and their professional abilities.

Hopefully, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering will arrange a helpful exchange and orientation for students in the future with the assistance and support of the Alumni Association of Chemistry as well as the Gratitude Fund.
