Dialogue with Petroleum Engineering students promotion 2016 - 2017

For the purpose of exchanging information on teaching and learning issues with Petroleum Technical students as well as other issues relating to educational program, supporting policies for students, scholarship, etc. during the school year 2016 – 2017, the Chemical Engineering – Oil and Gas department held a dialogue with its students at the hall F, Danang University of Science and Technology at 17.30 on 29 May 2017.

The attendees included Dr. Phan Minh Duc (Head of the Education department), Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dinh Lam (Head of the Technology and International cooperation department), Dr. Nguyen Van Dong (Head of the Student-related Affairs), Dr. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hang (Deputy of the Education department), and the Chemical Engineering Faculty leaders including Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Dung (Dean of the faculty), Senior lecturer Msc. Le Ngoc Trung, lecturers and students of the department.

The program started with the introduction given by Asso. Prof. Nguyen Van Dung. His opening remarked the encouraging achievements of the department during the past period. He also encouraged the students to do their best in actively learning and attending the activities proposed by the faculty and the university. Specially, he focused on the role of the students in improving the educational quality which the faculty always follows.

Following the opening speech of the dean, Dr. Dang Kim Hoang briefly introduced the present situation of the deparment in education: 764 engineers graduated from the department; the current number of the students is 263 and the general results for each promotion; employing situation of the recent promotions (09, 10 and 11). Besides, the head of the department also summarized the activities organized by the classes that is to strengthen ties between the classes.

Additionally, the Chemical Engineering – Oil and Gas department also introduced to their students about the procedure of establishing the educational program, the items of the educational program including objective, program outcome standard, educational program framework. It is focused on the significance of acknowledging the program outcome standard which will help students have a good choice for their future career.

The dialogue follows with answering questions raised by the students. Most questions are centered on modules relating to physical science, general education, soft-skills improving methods, scholarships, and online teaching method.

Also in this dialogue, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dinh Lam presented the UOP-Honeywell scholarship offered by the Universal Oil Products corporation, USA). This scholarship included (1) One week teaching program for the 4th year students (in April yearly), (2) 5 grants (500 USD/ grant) for 5 excellent students selected from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th year students (in September yearly), (3) a 2 months summer internship at UOP for one of the 5 excellent students (Interviewed by UOP in September yearly). Asso. Prof. Nguyen Dinh Lam remarked all students who want to be offered this scholarship should try best to get high marks and should improve more their English which is one the most important criteria for being awarding the grant. This funding program is more than welcomed by the students at the hall.

On this occasion, the head of the department presented the decision 2178/QĐ-BSR of the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR) on awarding 50 millions VND for excellent students of the department. This amount was divided in 12 grants for 12 students who do their best in school athough having difficulties. The remain (2 millions VND) will be used to support the activities organized by the H5 union. These scholarships are expected to encourage students to do their best in school.

The 3-hours dialogue with the students of the Chemical Engineering – Oil and Gas department is closed with the joy of all the attendees. Most questions among more than 100 questions raised by the students are satisfactorily answered. Many proposals given by the students are collected and will be considered in the forthcoming promotion.
