INTRODUCTION

Associated with the mission of the University of Da Nang - University of Science and Technology, Division of Food Technology - Faculty of Chemical Engineering aims to become one of the leading centers for human resource training, scientific research and technology transfer in the field of Food Science and Technology in the Central Coast - Highlands and in Vietnam as well as to be a high quality institute which meets the needs of integration with other countries in the region and in the world.

Food Technology Division was established in 1978 together with the establishment of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. With the former enthusiastic lecturer team who was trained Masters and PhDs at prestigious universities and research institutes in Vietnam and overseas, such as the former Soviet Union, Germany, Romania, France, the first foundation for the development of the Division has been firmly established. The latter lecturer generation has been given the opportunity to study in advanced countries such as France, Czechoslovakia, Australia, Japan, Russia and Taiwan in order to improve their qualifications and meet the requirements of training, scientific research of the Faculty, University in the field of Food Science and Technology.

The Year 2001 marked the development of the Division with the launched training program of biotechnology and the renaming to Division of Food and Biotechnology. In 2004, Food and Biotechnology Division was divided into Food Technology Division and Division of Biotechnology.

Along with the development of University of Science and Technology and Faculty of Chemical Engineering, the Division of Food Technology has expanded its undergraduate training scale from under 20 students per year to over 100 students per year. Graduate education and training have been started and consistently gone on since 1993 for master's degrees and since 1995 for doctoral degrees.

To meet the demands of training and scientific research of the Division, the facilities have been upgraded consistently and divided into Biochemistry Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Food Technology Laboratory, Sensory Evaluation Laboratory and Food Technology Workshop.

The Division of Food Technology is committed to continuous quality improvement of professtional education and training, scientific research for sustainable socio-economic development strategy of Da Nang city, of provinces in Central Coast and Highlands, and of the country.
