The training program of Petroleum Engineering - Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FCE), The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology was established in 1994, right after the Government of Vietnam announced the project of the Dung Quat oil refinery in Quangngai Province, Vietnam. In 1995, the first enrollment of this program was launched, under professional management of Chemical Engineering-Oil & Gas Division (CE-OGD).
Based on the core program of the Ministry of Education and Training, Petroleum Engineering Program (PEP) has inherited and selected the training program of Petrochemical Refinery Engineers of IFP school (ENSPM) under The French Institute of Petroleum (IFP) to develop curriculum that meet the quality requirements of a leading training sector of the university. Over 20 years of establishment and development, with qualified and enthusiastic lecturer team who are trained Masters and PhDs at prestigious universities and research institutes in France (ENSPM, IFP, IRCE, CNRS…), CE-ODG is growing up to meet the requirements of training, scientific research of the Faculty, University in the field of oil and gas processing.
Thanks to the practical training curriculum, which is regularly and highly updated, applicable, engineers graduated from the Petroleum Engineering Program can meet the job positions as engineer design, operators, researchers in research institutes or research centers. Up to 2017, nearly 800 engineers have graduated from the Petroleum Engineering Program and many of the alumni are holding key positions at Dung Quat Refinery, Phu My Fertilizer Plant, PetroVietnam Research and Development Center - PVPro and foreign oil and gas design companies such as Technip, Axens, Idemitsu, Total, Schlumberger, Rosneft ...
With a highly-qualified and dynamic team, CE-OGD has established cooperative relationships with many training institutions, with domestic and foreign enterprises This partnership helps faculty and students in the teaching and learning process to have the opportunity to approach practice as well as to establish the connection between theory and practice. Additionally, by the annual student exchange program with Francophone universities, PEP graduates are recognized as equivalent to the first year of master program to enter the second year of master degree at the university. In France, students are able to enroll into Master programs organized by a number of universities at Toulon, Lille, Toulouse, Lyon,.. Moreover, these students also have opportunity to exchange culture with students from the Republic of France.
As a member of the Organization of French-speaking Universities (AUF), the Petroleum Engineering Program is supported by the French Embassy as well as collaboration of the French universities. Thanks to this advantage, some excellent graduates have received a scholarship to study Master degree in France. Since the establishing date, the total number of students receiving scholarships to study for Master degree and continue to do research Ph.D. is over 50 at French universities among of that 25 students have successfully defended doctorate thesis in France, some of these alumni have become faculty members.
With high-quality human resources that have graduated from universities or postgraduate from prestige institutes of oil and gas technology, together with conditions for facilities for teaching and studying in term of synchronization and modern property, the Program of Petroleum Engineering - Faculty of Chemical Engineering, The University of Danang, University of Science and Technology aims to be a high quality institute for human resource training, scientific research and technology transfer to contribute positively to the development of the oil and gas industry of the country and region in the near future.

RESEARCH ORIENTATION
Not only being committed to ensuring an effective teaching, all of our academic staff members also take part in research activities covering a variety of fields across chemical engineering studies. The excellent research activities of the Chemical Engineering – Oil and Gas department have been recognized through honours and awards, received by the department and its staff, for instance 2 patents, 3 VIFOTEC prizes, many certificates of merit, and many successfully inspected research projects.
Our research themes are mainly focused on:
- Simulation of industrial processes in oil and gas processing plants;
- Nano-materials, advanced materials and industrial catalysts applied in environmental technology;
- Production and utilization of biofuels (i.e. Biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel…)
