The faculty of Chemical Engineering successfully held a conference for students doing scientific research in the academic year 2020-2021

Chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, food technology, and biotechnology all play critical roles in socio-economic development. Since the beginning of its existence, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology – The University of Danang has been interested in conducting scientific research for students. The Faculty of Chemical Engineering hosts a Scientific Research Student Conference each year to provide a venue for discussion, instruction, training, and to aid students in understanding the most recent research findings. Additionally, the Faculty offers students the chance to access cutting-edge scientific research techniques in a variety of specialized and interdisciplinary fields.

In keeping with the success of prior years, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering hosted the Scientific Research Student Conference for the academic year 2020–2021 on December 16, 2020, at the Smart Building, University of Science and Technology–The University of Danang. Representatives from the Department of Science, Technology, and International Cooperation, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, teachers, and a large number of students from the Faculty attended the conference.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Doan Thi Thu Loan - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering - Head of the Conference Organizing Committee gave the opening speech

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Thi Thu Loan - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee emphasized: "Students can approach and gradually master science and technology by participating in scientific research activities, which foster their creativity, capacity for critical thought, and youth intelligence. Students will also learn scientific ways of thinking and acting, which will form the basis for enhancing professional qualifications and capacity, contributing practically to the improvement of training quality, and participating in scientific research conducted by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang.”

 Twelve research topics  arepresented and 37 research topics are participated as posters at the Scientific Research Student Conference for the academic year 2020–2021. Many of them have innovative research topics that meet the current needs of society, including Screening potential compounds against Sars-CoV-2 from Vietnamese herbal sources using bioinformatics tools; Exploiting data on factors affecting the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic and topics with high practical applications such as Research on the impact of glue and drying yeast formula on frozen bread; Research on the use of regenerated rubber in the production of M41 running surface of automobile tires; or Research on aquatic wastewater treatment by microalgae culture technology.

After more than four hours of diligent work, the Conference Organizing Committee discussed, determined, and presented prizes for the following research topics to be presented at the Scientific Research Student Conference 2020–2021:

- The first prize belongs to the topic: Evaluation of the chemical composition of the flesh and seeds of avocado green waxy skin in Nghe An province and development of avocado products. Group of students: Nguyen Thi Nguyet Ha, Luong Thi Tuyet Ngan, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Thi Truc Loan.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Doan Thi Thu Loan - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering - Head of the Conference Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the group of students who reported at the Conference

- The second prize belongs to the topic: Research on the use of regenerated rubber in the production of M41 running surface of automobile tires. Group of students: Nguyen Thanh Cong, Tran Thi Giang. This is a Capstone Project under the guidance of a business representative (Dr. Nguyen Van Thien, Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company) and the University (Assoc. Prof.Dr. Doan Thi Thu Loan), made at Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Minh Nhat - Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering awarded the second prize to the group of students who reported at the Conference.

- And two third prizes belong to the topic:

+ Research, simulate and design a visual model for the adsorption process. Group of students: Le Binh Tan, Nguyen Huu Tien, Hoang Van Phu, Tran Nguyen Le Phong, under the guidance of Dr. Le Thi Nhu Y.

+ Investigate biological characteristics of Bacillus velezensis strain and experiment to create microbial fertilizers: Group of students: Le Thi Thuy Ngan, under the guidance of Dr. Ngo Thai Bich Van.

Dr. Dang Kim Hoang - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering awarded the third prize to the group of students who reported at the Conference.

Additionally, the Conference Organizing Committee presented Poster Prizes to students who demonstrated outstanding research findings, poster presentation skills, and question-answering ability, specifically:

- The first prize belongs to the topic: Application of experimental planning to evaluate the conditions of waste lubricant regeneration by extraction - flocculation method. Group of students: Le Duc Danh, Pham Thi Thuy Minh, under the guidance of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hang.

- The second prize belongs to the topic: Research on pozzolanic activity of waste glass powder with a size of 80mm to produce durable cement in the water environment. Student: Nguyen Thi Thuy Phuong, under the guidance of Dr. Ho Viet Thang.

- And two third prizes belong to the topic:

Optimization of Fermentation Conditions for Kombucha Tea Student: Le Vu Thuy Trieu, under the guidance of Dr. Le Ly Thuy Tram.

Exploiting information on elements affecting the evolution of the Covid 19 Student: Luong Dinh Gia Han, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Xuan.

The Faculty of Chemical Engineering, University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang successfully concluded its Scientific Research Student Conference for the 2020–2021 academic year. Leaders of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and the Conference Organizing Committee praised the commitment of the qualified instructors and, in particular, praised the students for their active efforts and ability to overcome challenges in the course of scientific research. Leaders in the faculty have a strong conviction that the scientific research activities of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering will draw an increasing number of students to participate with a spirit of initiative and creativity along with new research ideas that have a social impact and are highly applicable.
